Manchester Universities Freshers Week
Wednesday 23rd September

It's midday. I'm walking around all the Manchester University buildings looking for noticeboards I can put posters on to market my book.

Manchester university students are marketed to so much it's difficult to get them to notice anything. The best idea I came up with is not bothering with the unions which are expensive to advertise through, and promote my book on the free noticeboards in the university teaching building. They have general noticeboards which anyone can post on. It's areas like corridors where students could be waiting for classes to finish before they go into a room.

So now I'm at the student societies fair. Dominos are giving away free slices of pizza. I had 3 already. Nokia is giving out nice ice cream. I had a tub this morning and 2 this afternoon. Also I've had sweets, cakes and some really nice biscuits.

Jackson is here now. He's applied for a course in social media and been accepted, but he's having trouble securing funding for it. So he might not start it anyway. Social media is all about social networking on the internet.

I'm at the Manchester societies fair and students are trying to get people to sign up to societies. It's really great how all these students put effort in to these activities. They should be proud of themselves.

All these students make me consider for a minute to become a student again. Get a loan, run up some debt, and have an amazing first year! Then I consider how I've done university and the challenge is to make the world outside of education a better place.

I go out on to Oxford Road. Lorries drive past and park outside the university buildings, promoting the nights out at nightclubs and bars in the city.
